baseball

Ken Burns has finally completed his long awaited 10th inning, the latest sequel to his amazing 9 inning 10+ hour baseball documentary. It will cover the events of the last 15 or so years including steroids, the Red Sox championship and presumably will delve into David Eckstein's case for the Hall of . . . something, Manny Ramirez's positive test for female hormones and the in-famous walk-off home run that Darryl Strawberry hit in 1992 to move the Dodgers into 6th place; a game I attended with my best friend Eugene as part of my 12th birthday celebration. Kent Merker signed a ball for me that day (seen above). True story.

PS - I am doing my absolute best to make time to post more often. It's not easy lately what with a busy 40+ hour a week job as a professional while taking two classes to better my professional self. Let's cross our fingers that I find time to finish a post by Friday.

Technical Difficulties and GO DODGERS!

I am still experiencing some technical difficulties with my ability to post images. So please excuse the inconsistent posting and/or text only posts. I know, bummer.

In the meantime, it's officially baseball season! Go Dodger Blue!
What? You didn't know I was a sports fan? I'm not. Not really. Despite my love of the Dodgers, I don't really follow the sport (or any sport). But I do enjoy attending sporting events. Why?Well, for a lot of reasons - it's far more exciting than watching on television, I like the atmosphere, the childhood memories, blah blah blah. The biggest reason I enjoy sporting events is the food. Really, that's the best part - admit it. So I was excited to read this article which got me pumped for this season. I know other people get pumped for the season by reading up on the players stats and such. Boring. Tell me where the best food is and I am a happy sports fan.

Word to the wise: No matter how hungry you are, and how late you are running, skip the Carl's Jr. food. I know stadium food is not going to be healthy and you aren't gonna feel like a million bucks after eating any of it but well, just learn from my experience. It's not worth it.

One more note, skip the part in the article that starts going into calorie content. Yeah, it's a lot. Did you seriously not know that already? Unless, you have season tickets and are eating this stuff on a very regular basis then just enjoy the food and oh yeah, the game.

Note: Problem still not fixed, but budger's brain might have been.

four glorious words

Today's the day. It's the day that all devout baseball fans wait for. Finally, we get to utter those magical words "pitchers and catchers report." The offseason is unofficially over. It's time for the players to get ready and it's time to get ourselves prepped for the season.

Here is my version of the ten best baseball movies to get you excited for baseball season.

10. Sugar (I haven't seen it yet, but am very anxious)
9. Major League
8. The Jackie Robinson Story
7. Pastime
6. Pride of the Yankees
5. Fever Pitch
4. Eight Men Out
3. Bad News Bears
2. Bang The Drum Slowly
1. The Natural

Of course, everybody should watch Ken Burns' nine part Baseball Documentary. It's a ton of fun and fascinating. It's not on my list because at roughly 20 hours it deserves its own category.

These are the books I will be reading this season.

Pull Up a Chair (The Vin Scully Biography)
The Brothers K
The Boys of Summer
Willie's Boys
The Last Good Season
The Teammates

Finally, here are the books that I read last season.

Crazy '08 (Really Amazing!)
Eight Men Out
I Never Had It Made (Jackie Robinson Autobiography)
In the Country of Baseball (The Dock Ellis Biography)

Smile people, for us Southern Californians this marks the beginning of spring. The orange thing you see in the sky after work? That's the sun. It only gets bigger and brighter from here on out. I couldn't be any more excited.
